Silver Birches cabin. Below are their
winning essays. |
| What I had to do was not easy, but I
did and I am able to come to camp this year. The very first think I
did was got a scholarship for camp. It was a family all the way from
Florida that helped me. I was so happy someone from that far away
helped me. At my age, 13, it is hard to earn money because I can't
get a job yet, but I helped my family with a lot of stuff to be able to
go. I went to work with him twice to earn money. I went to
work twice also. I cleaned my mom and dad's car. I went to my
grandma and did her lawn work like cut her grass, trim the edges, and
cleaned her pool. I really have done a lot of stuff and it is going
to be worth all the work I did. - Chance K. |
| All year long my mom and I collected 5
cent cans. We wrote to York Lions Club, York Hospital, and York VFW.
The all decided to sponsor me. A friend of ours was collecting 5
cent cans secretly. Right before he was going to give them to me,
they were stolen. He put an add in the paper telling about me and my
diabetes, and how he raised $105.00 so I could go to camp. A few
days later, Mr. Ciampa gave me the $105.00 back because he was so
disgusted at how some people are like that. Then the local
Applebee's had read about what was happening. They had a 50/50
raffle. But, no one wanted to play. They just wanted to donate
money. About a month later, a woman named Charlotte Morin called an
told me that her daughter was a diabetic. And that she went to a
camp and loved it. so she wanted me to go to my camp and have a
wonderful time. So she sent me another $150 dollars. I'm very
luck and greatful. And, that's how I go everything for camp! - Kacie
