Rufus has come to camp...summer camp
just for kids with diabetes. The American Diabetes Association Camp
Carefree is located in New Durham, NH, at Lion's Camp Pride on
Merrymeeting Lake. 122 campers will be attending camp in just a few
days, but right now it's staff training week. Counselors, and
waterfront, office, and medical staff are gearing up to make this the best
summer camp experience ever. If you'd like to find out more about
Camp Carefree, check out our website
www.CampCarefreekids.org.
Rufus will be meeting the rest of the staff tonight at
dinner, along with his sister, Ruby (#2). They plan to spend a day
in each of the camper cabins to enjoy the camper experience right along
with the campers. We will find out what they do each day after the
campers write their journal entries. I bet they are going to have a
lot of fun!
My name is Rufus.
I’ll be here at camp to help campers with their diabetes. My first visit
was to the Giant Redwoods cabin during pre-camp and you will see me all
over camp.
Rufus spent the day
today with the Jumping Junipers and was very excited to meet all of the
campers. He is looking forward to spending time teaching and getting to
know all of the campers!! See you around!
Today Rufus came with us on a hike to
Singing Waters Brook. He seemed to enjoy it. Today he is in
Giant Redwoods (Go Redwoods!) and we enjoyed his company. I'm not
sure where he's going tomorrow, but I'm sure he'll have fun. Good
luck with diabetes and God bless!

Rufus is
still with the Redwoods (whoo hoo!). He was switched to me in flag
line (lowering the flag). He did the limbo at the danceathon but
decided to sit all the other dances out (must be shy). In closing
circle he actually got to be in the middle. Me and Jimmy held his
hands. He was a bit short but he'll grow (or shrink). We got
back to the cabin and read some Harry Potter. Then he helped me open
my mail. Then he fell asleep. He is still sleeping.
Rufus got to stay with the Tall Timbers
today and got to go fishing with me Eric, Jake, Bobby, and Corey.
Rufus also got to come to lunch, snack, and supper with me Eric.
The, we all had some fun when Rufus in the cabin.
Today Rufus was welcomed to the Mighty
Oaks. Rufus came down with us to the lake for
swimming...unfortunately he forgot his trunks. But he fashioned some
goggles. He was scared at snack...people were eating his brethren
(Teddy Grahams). He came to ropes course and guided me via
blindfold. He came back to the cabin and got 100 blood sugar and got
a dollar. At lunch someone stole his booster seat so he left.

Rufus came
to me because someone stole his booster seat. So he ate lunch and
dinner with me. We also went fishing and he caught a fish. At
dinner he was announced for catching a fish after he was strangled with a
fish line. He came to a sing-a-thon with me and he got to sing and
dance. Now he sleeps.
Today is out take day and all the
campers' parents have come to take them home. Rufus and Ruby are sad
to see them go because they've had a great time visiting them during the
camp session. But now it's time for Rufus and Ruby to head out for
their next adventures. Before they go, they'd like to share the
words to the Camp Carefree Song.
