Whereas
American Diabetes Association Camp
Carefree would love to
have old friends, new friends/families, past alumni and special event
personnel at camp with us for as long as camp itself, all of us need to
remember that camp ultimately is for and all about our campers and CITs.
As a result, visiting time is restricted and we do not allow parents,
relatives, or friends to visit our campers or CITs during camp. This
allows time for the campers and CITs to develop the independence, camp
friendships, responsible diabetes management skills, and life skills that
are so essential to a great camp experience and their futures.
Please read on to see if one of the
following applies to you. If so, follow the appropriate prompts to
register to come to camp. If everything is in order, we will contact
you to finalize details. Visitors and Guests may only come to camp via
this process and with the approval of the Camp Director. Feel free to
contact her if you have any questions.
CAMP TOURS
Families with children with diabetes who are not yet
attending camp, and others who are interested in seeing
ADA Camp Carefree, are welcome during the
camp session. An appointment is required several days to a week
beforehand to arrange tour guides. Your tour guides will be two campers who will show you all around camp and answer
any questions you may have. The suggested times for your tour are
9:30-11:30 AM and 1:00-5:30PM. (Note that Rest Hour is from
1:45-2:45PM during which time camp activities are quiet) Camp tour
online registration will open July 1st. Check back then for this
link.
WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT CAMP
Upon arrival, ALL Visitors and Guests must check in with the
Director (the camp office is located in the basement of the Dining
Hall). Anyone seen wandering around camp unaccompanied will
be asked to leave for the safety of the entire camp community. Meals
are generally not provided without prior arrangements. Also, no
overnight accommodations are available, but we will be glad to provide
directions to many fine eating/lodging facilities nearby upon request.
OTHER VISITORS
Alumni Staff, former campers/CITs, and friends of current
Staff members are welcome to visit ADA Camp
Carefree by arrangement with the Director. Please call
the Camp Office at 603-859-0410 several days to a week beforehand to schedule your
visit. Please note that the only ideal time for visiting any of the
current Staff is during their free time so as not to distract them from
their primary obligations. All visitors of Staff should plan to leave no
later than midnight. Other visitor online registration will open
July 1st. Check back then for this link.
GUESTS OF CAMP
All people volunteering time for a day, activity, or
a special event (such as Bass Fishing Day), as well as invited guests of the Camp Director, are
considered to be Guests of Camp. Guests must register to come to camp
and are warmly welcomed to help with specific aspects of the camp
program. For safety reasons, Guests must always be under the direct
supervision of ADA Camp Carefree
staff. Guests are also welcome to join us for meals if your
activity or agreed upon time goes across a meal time. Specific programs
at camp which greatly benefit the campers could not run without our
Guests! Guest online registration will open June 1st. Check
back then for this link.
LONG-TERM VOLUNTEERS
Anyone interested in staying longer at camp must become
an
ADA Camp Carefree volunteer and complete/return all volunteer paperwork
at least a week prior to the start of camp.
details. Please be aware that relatives of current campers/CITs also
CANNOT BE ACCEPTED as volunteer staff at ADA Camp Carefree.
