Arts & Crafts Director (desc)

JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS
bullet

At least 21 years of age.

bullet

Training and experience in teaching arts and crafts to children.

bullet

Desire and ability to work with children outdoors in varied conditions.

bullet

Three years of college or equivalent experience in camping.

bullet

Physically capable to perform all arts and craft activities, communicate effectively to various age levels, and enforce appropriate behavior, safety regulations and emergency procedures.

bullet

Knowledge and ability to respond to emergency situations, assist in same, and supervise effectively.  First Aid and CPR desirable.

 

RESPONSIBLE TO

Program Director

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
bullet

Develop and deliver an arts and crafts program that is appropriate for the age and ability of the campers.

bullet

Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures.

bullet

Maintain the arts and crafts equipment/supplies/area so that everything is clean, safe and yet accessible at all times.

bullet

Be an active participant in camp life.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
bullet

Design and deliver arts and crafts activities that make responsible use of the camp’s natural environment.  Use art resources most efficiently.

bullet

During Pre-Camp:

–Take inventory of existing equipment and supplies.

–Organize the Arts and Craft Building for maximum safety and productivity.

–Post clear safety rules where they can be easily seen and followed..

–Write lesson plans that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers.

–Assist in training of staff for arts and crafts as to their roles and responsibilities.

–Assist counselors in stocking cabin Activity Boxes for safe fun in the individual cabins during camp.

Conduct a daily check of the area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.

bullet

Maintain a clean arts and crafts area, keeping it free of hazards and debris.

bullet

Bring any safety concerns in writing to the attention of the Camp Director.  Remedy these safety concerns immediately where possible and make note in writing of the corrections made and when completed.

bullet

Evaluate abilities of campers and staff; adapt program as needed.

bullet

Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures.

bullet

Ensure the security of the arts and crafts equipment and supplies.

bullet

Keep a clear inventory throughout camp.  Plan for replacement of supplies as needed during camp and for the next year.

bullet

Participate enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team in as many camp activities as possible, planning and leading those as assigned.

bullet

Assist in the planning of any special events, especially when decorations or costumes are needed.

bullet

Conduct a final inventory at the end of camp and return it to the IT Specialist.

bullet

Evaluate the success of the arts and crafts program at the end of camp.
