JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS

	High School graduate; some college preferred or equivalent learning experience
	Interest in learning about diabetes management, insulin pump therapy and site/set changes
	A strong interest in the medical care of children with diabetes
	Some medical background and/or certification in CPR and First Aid preferred

RESPONSIBLE TO

Medical Director, Medical Coordinator, Camp Director

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist medical staff with all aspects of medical care provided at camp

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

(under the direction of LMP)

	Cover Health Center as needed maintaining contact with the Medical Coordinator
	Accompany medical staff on planned excursions as needed
	Obtain medical/diabetes supplies at the request of counselors or other camp staff
	Monitor and restock Reaction Packs as needed
	Measure/package Reaction Juice powder for use in camper cabins
	Assist in keeping Reaction Juice containers clean
	Write information as directed by LMP in daily log
	Supervise insulin administration, assisting campers in this skill as needed and directed by LMP. Assist LMP in the teaching of insulin administration for those children unable to give injections. Actual administration of insulin may be included at the discretion of the LMP, including documentation as needed or appropriate.
	Monitor blood sugars and/or ketones before each meal, at bedtime and as needed. Supervise tests when necessary. Make sure campers have documented their results in their own log book. Document test results on medical record.
	Perform other duties as delegated by the Medical Coordinator, Medical Director or Camp Director
